  Saruka Shrine

Legends say this shrine was built as Shinshagu in 807 by Sakanoue no Tamuramaro when he came north on his conquest of the Ezo people.
The main hall, built in 1826 in the Nagare-Zukuri architecture style, is designated as a prefectural Important Cultural Property.
It was made a public shrine by Tamenobu Tsugaru during the feudal period, and is revered now as a home for a deity watching over agriculture, traffic, and eye health.
